What is a Nickel Based Alloy?

Nickel based alloys take the performance properties of nickel, including corrosion-resistance, strength and thermal conductivity, and elevate them. They combine nickel with other elements, including chromium, iron, molybdenum and titanium. Depending on the elements used, nickel based alloys offer an enhanced level of corrosion-resistance, durability and high-temperature strength.

Our Nickel Based Alloys List: Whatever you’re looking for, we offer it.

IN-100: Combines nickel with chromium, cobalt, aluminum and titanium.
  • Properties: High-temperature strength, oxidation resistance, creep resistance, structural stability.
  • Applications: Anywhere high-heat and high-stress are a concern. This nickel metal superalloy is often used in jet engine components and gas turbines.
Hastelloy X: A combination of nickel, chromium and molybdenum.
  • Properties: Offers superior high-temperature resistance, even for temperatures as high as 2000°F (1093°C).
  • Applications: Ideal for parts used in gas turbine engines and industrial furnaces.
Hastelloy B-2 (N7M): Combines nickel with molybdenum, along with small amounts of other elements.
  • Properties: The mid-century advancement of Hastelloy B, N7M is highly resistant to chemicals, including non-oxidizing acids like hydrochloric acid.
  • Applications: Ideal in any industry where chemical-exposure is a concern, including chemical processing plants, pharmaceutical and petroleum.
IN-713C: Nickel with chromium, iron, molybdenum and sometimes up to 5% titanium.
  • Properties: Offers good ductility and excellent castability while still offering high-temperature resistance.
  • Applications: Used across a variety of industrial applications where high thermal stress is a concern, including gas turbine blades and vanes.
Hastelloy C (CW12MW): Combines nickel with chromium, molybdenum, iron and tungsten.
  • Properties: Highly resistant to corrosion and oxidization, helping to combat pitting and stress-corrosion cracks.
  • Applications: Ideal in any industry where chemical-exposure is a concern, including chemical processing facilities and nuclear industries.
IN-718: Nickel combined with chromium.
  • Properties: Offers outstanding tensile, fatigue, creep and rupture strength.
  • Applications: Used widely in aerospace components, including engines and fasteners.
Inconel 600 (CY40): Nickel combined with chromium and iron.
  • Properties: This high-performing, high-temperature nickel based alloy is highly resistant to organic and inorganic compounds. It can withstand extreme temperatures while maintaining integrity and performance.
  • Applications: Often used in chemical and nuclear engineering, including furnace and reactor components.
Hastelloy C4C (CW2M): Combines nickel with chromium, molybdenum, iron, cobalt and tungsten.
  • Properties: The addition of chromium and molybdenum compared to Hastelloy C gives this alloy high tensile strength and even more corrosion-resistance against chemicals.
  • Applications: Ideal in any industry where extreme chemical-exposure is a concern, including chemical reactors and pollution control equipment.
Inconel 625 (CW6MC): Nickel combined with chromium and molybdenum.
  • Properties: Denser than other nickel based alloys, Inconel 625 is very corrosion-resistant. It has high thermal-fatigue strength.
  • Applications: Often used in aerospace, marine and chemical processing applications.
Hastelloy G: Predominantly nickel and chromium, with a small amount of molybdenum.
  • Properties: Offers durability and reliability in challenging environments, including exposure to phosphoric acid and sulfuric acid.
  • Applications: Ideal in any industry where chemical-exposure is a concern, including chemical processing plants, pharmaceutical manufacturing and petroleum equipment.
Waspaloy: Nickel combined with chromium, cobalt, molybdenum and titanium.
  • Properties: High-strength, low creep and high-temperature resistance.
  • Applications: A regular alloy in gas turbine engines and other aerospace applications.

FAQs

What are the advantages of using nickel based alloys in industrial applications?

Nickel based alloys offer better performance features than pure nickel casting. These wear resistant alloys offer incredible corrosion-resistance and high heat-resistance. Depending on the alloy you select from our extensive nickel based superalloys list, you can enhance these properties or add other advantages like chemical resistance.

How does Waukesha Foundry ensure the quality of its nickel based alloys?

With 100 years of experience, we take great pride in the quality control measures we have in place. We are ISO 9001:2015 by TÜV Rheinland certified and offer inspections to meet SNT-TC-1A / NAS-410-4 Level II or ASNT / NAS-410-4 Level III certifications.

Can Waukesha Foundry provide custom nickel alloy castings?

We only produce custom castings. Any bar stock is available from our subsidiary, Waukesha Metals.

What certifications does Waukesha Foundry hold for its manufacturing processes?

We are ISO 9001:2015 by TÜV Rheinland certified.

How do I choose the right nickel based alloy for my specific application?

Our team can help you decide based on your application needs, operating conditions and any other performance parameters.

What are the typical lead times for nickel alloy castings?

Lead times vary and depend on part complexity, order quantity and other variables related to your specific project. Lead time is not alloy dependent.
