Waukesha, WI — Steve Cooke, President of Waukesha Foundry, recently participated in the Steel Founders’ Society of America (SFSA) Next Generation Manufacturing Committee meeting, focused on advancing automation, robotics, and Industry 4.0 technologies across the steel casting industry.
During the meeting, members reviewed a sponsored project centered on automated dye penetrant inspection and quality detail mapping, as well as emerging capabilities from Instinct Robotics to scan castings and generate automated grinding paths, an approach well-suited for low-volume, high-mix foundry environments.
Cooke also participated in the Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing (ARM) Institute’s Robotic Casting and Forging Forum, which brought together manufacturers and technology providers to identify opportunities for innovation and potential areas for government-supported advancement.
“These collaborative efforts are critical to strengthening U.S. manufacturing,” said Cooke. “Advancing automation and robotics will help improve quality, efficiency, and long-term competitiveness across our industry.”
Insights from these sessions will contribute to a broader industry roadmap guiding future advancements in robotic casting, forging, and automation.
